The mineral content of the water you use can have an affect on the lifespan of your machine.
Changing water regularly prevents biofilm build-up on the internal walls of the machine’s tank, pipes and fittings.
Replacing the water filter regularly assists in removing any unwanted minerals or particles before the water enters your machine.
Descaling removes limescale, mineral and rust build up from your machine’s pipes, pump and heating element. Some machines have a descaling light that reminds you when it’s time to descale. Descaling regularly ensures that your coffee stays hot, tastes good and your machine lasts longer.
Removing used pods / coffee grounds immediately after use prevents unwanted coffee oils, smells and bacteria from staying in your brew chamber/ group head.
Rinsing your coffee machine before/ after use is an extra step that can clear out any residue that stayed behind after your last brew.
Cleaning is not the same as descaling. Cleaning removes coffee oils, bacteria and residue that builds in the brew chamber/brew unit and spout of your machine. Cleaning regularly keeps your coffee flowing well, tasting great and ensures that no old residue ends up in your cup.
The milk system of your machine is the easiest part to forget, but the most important part to clean. Milk fats and deposits forms bacteria and blockages in the machine. This rancid milk can end up in your drink if not cleaned regulary.
